The Traditional Herbal Medicinal Products Directive (THMPD) allows herbal products to be registered under national medicines law in all EU member states.

In 2011 it became law that all herbals on the UK market should now either be licensed as a Traditional Herbal Remedy or have a marketing authorisation.
